Study Abroad Blogs
Each semester, students studying abroad around the world are chosen to chronical their time overseas and share their experiences through our study abroad blogs. Bloggers are responsible for submitting one to two posts per week, covering a
wide array of topics that focus on cultural, social and introspective
aspects of study abroad, such as cultural observations, culture shock,
personal reflections, classroom experiences, language acquisition,
teaching styles, lifestyle, cuisine, difficulties/challenges, and more.
Our bloggers serve to reveal and recount what it's actually like to be a student living and learning in a foreign country, and to help share these expereinces with prospective students and the greater Temple University community.

PROGRAM: Temple University Japan Campus
LOCATION: Tokyo, Japan
ABOUT DANIELLE:
I am 20 years-old and a Junior from Cleveland, Ohio, studying Communication. I have been studying Japanese for 3 years now and I love the language and culture. My favorite thing about Japan is its perfect mix and contrast of traditional and modern. I look forward to seeing beautiful, traditional shrines and temples as well as all the hi-tech creatures that Tokyo has to offer. Oh! And Japanese sweets too! Yum! In my free time I also enjoy cheerleading, movies, fashion, and sports as well as Japanese music.

NAME: Shannon Barter
HOME SCHOOL: Temple University
MAJOR: Tourism and Hospitality Management
PROGRAM: IFSA-Butler, University of Westminster
LOCATION: London, UK
ABOUT SHANNON:
I am a Tourism and Hospitality student at Temple University, which means the opportunity to study abroad was something I could simply not pass up! One of the major reasons I chose to study in London, England was the opportunity to see and experience the preparations for the 2012 Olympic Games to be hosted here this summer! I am taking a course on Olympic Tourism, and will also get to go on various tours of the facilities and villages! I also chose London because without a language barrier I felt that I could truly immerse myself in all aspects of life here! I am really looking forward to being able to do just as the Brits do, and experience everything that London has to offer. As one of the largest and most metropolitan cities in the world, I know I am in for an amazing adventure! I think everyone should embark on such a journey, because an opportunity like this does not come around every day!

NAME: Eric Burton
HOME SCHOOL: Temple University
MAJOR: Broadcast/Telecommunications/Mass Media (BTMM)
PROGRAM: Temple University Japan Campus
LOCATION: Tokyo, Japan
ABOUT ERIC:
I came to Tokyo because I have always been interested in how America and Japan have a constant cultural exchange going on (movies, music, anime, etc). I wanted to study this exchange from the Japanese perspective. Also, since I will be entering the music business upon graduation, I plan on independently learning as much as I can about the music industry in Tokyo. I'm most looking forward to meeting and making new Japanese friends, so I can learn about the culture firsthand.

NAME: Anthony Fragola
HOME SCHOOL: Temple University
MAJOR: Biology, Spanish
PROGRAM: Temple University in Spain
LOCATION: Oviedo, Spain
ABOUT ANTHONY:
My name, obviously, is Anthony Fragola, but while in Spain I prefer to be called Antonio. I chose to study abroad in Spain for numerous reasons - I expected the food to be fantastic (which it has been), the landscapes, especially in Asturias, are beautiful, the accent of Spanish spoken here sounds the prettiest to me and the attitude here seems a lot more laid back than what I´m used to in the states. While here, I look forward to traveling a little bit to see other parts of Spain and some neighboring countries, but what I´m really looking forward to is becoming as fluent in Spanish as possible while here and really settling and and feeling at home in Oviedo.

NAME: Haru Jang
HOME SCHOOL: Temple University
MAJOR: Metals/Jewelry/CAD-CAM
PROGRAM: Temple University Japan Campus
LOCATION: Tokyo, Japan
ABOUT HARU:
Despite disliking things with eight legs and complicated faces, my favorite philosophy is Wabi-sabi, or finding and appreciating the beauty in all things. Hence, I love crows, because they're amazing yet people dismiss them. That hasn't changed here in Japan either, but I didn't come here to see crows. Let's just say, I came to Japan to find the Wabi-sabi in my culture, because it made me feel displaced back home in the States... so I had dismissed it. I'm hoping this semester abroad will open my eyes and let me find something to appreciate, which I think I'm already learning to see.
