Class Resources Microbiology: Pharmacology: Dr.Cowan Dr.Christman has moved to the southern California school so more info will
follow when a new professor is hired This course is broken up into 3 parts, taught by 3 different professors, with short breaks in between each part. Challenges are not accepted because this is a clinical course and there is no known required text. Intro to Surgery: Class runs late November to mid January, but is followed by Dig Met, a continuation of the surgery class. Recommended texts: Comprehensive Textbook of Foot Surgery: McGlamry, Williams and Wilikins, 2001, 3rd edition; Foot and Ankle Trauma: Scurran, Churchill-Livingston, 1989; McGlamry's Forefoot Surgery, LWW, 1st Edition, 2004 Casting: It is a pass/fail course. Attendance is mandatory (that is the only way they will fail the class). There are three casting sections which fall in August, October, and November of last year. (So, the class will be split into 3 groups which will attend 1 casting section per group) Casting section = two classes which were early in the morning and the workshop which was in the afternoon. You need to wear scrubs or cheap clothes to the workshops because you actually use plaster to do BK casts on each other which may get a little messy!Dr. McNearney was the instructor last year. They said he wass nice and very easy to contact. There are handouts. Dr. McNearney will provide those. There is one ten question test at the very end which will be scheduled by Dr. McNearney at a convenient time for everyone. Each group will attend their month's section (2-3 classes and 1 workshop).Last year's rep said we do not need to worry about scheduling the classes they are already planned ahead. They say the class is fun and easy, however, people failed because they didn't show up to their class/section/workshop times. You can not change your day/group....people thought they could get away with changing it....thus, they failed the class. Pathomechanics: Per last year's reps - Dr. Whitney is very easy to talk to about anything and he's flexible in case there is any scheduling conflicts (which needs to be addressed through the reps).Dr. Schoenhaus will be lecturing for the majority of the class, but Dr. Whitney is the person to contact with questions. The class is scheduled for 4 hours, but they usually only lecture for 2 hours.Be prepared when Dr. Shoenhaus lectures because he gives quizzes (approximately 8 last year). Therefore, always review material from the previous week.Dr. Shoenhaus goes over the quizzes in class, so if people have questions they can ask then. There was a guest lecturer who did submit questions for the final (which they were given ahead of time) and all of them were on the test. Challenges are not accepted for the exams.Dr. Whitney reviews every exam, and throws out questions and gives points accordingly.(Last year,6 pts were added to each of the 2 test grades.)
