Competitions

  • Competitions will run concurrently from 12:30 PM - 5:30 PM on Saturday April 17th

Student Paper Competition
This competition will reward excellence in communications skills.
Technical papers written by undergraduate IEEE members will be
evaluated by a panel of three judges from industry. The author must also deliver a short oral presentation of his/her work which will factor into the score.

We are no longer accepting submissions for the paper competition.
Rules: PDF | FLASH
Team Size: 1-4

Brown Bag Competition
This competition requires that a circuit be designed and built to
solve a problem given only a certain number of components and a given amount of time. Exact details of the competition will be dispersed at the time of competition.
Team Size: 1-4

Micromouse Competition
A challenging and popular robotics competition involving the
construction of an autonomous robotic "mouse" that navigates to the center of a random maze from a specified corner in the shortest amount of time possible.

a. Judging for the Micromouse competition will take place under two categories this year. One where teams have used kits to create their mouse and the other where students use individual parts to create the mouse. Teams must indicate on the day of the competition as to which category they wish to participate in.

b. The prizes for each category are as follows:

Teams without a Kit: First Prize - $500.00 and Second Prize - $250.00
Teams with a Kit: First Prize - $200.00 Second Prize- $100.00

Project Showcase
Displays for student projects will be judged and a winning project
decided by popular vote. The winner will receive a certificate and
plaque.

As always Project Showcase will be a peer evaluated event. However, this year there will be a cap to the number of votes a student branch can cast:

a. Each student branch will be allotted a maximum of 10 ballots.

b. Student branches with less than 10 members attending, will receive the same number of ballots as the number of student members present.

Team Size: 1-4

Ethics Competition
Student branches will be presented with ethical dilemmas and will have to devise solutions. The creativity and ethical soundness of these solutions will be judged.
Rules: PDF | FLASH
Team Size: 2-3

Physics Competition

This competition gives students an opportunity to show how book smart they are. Students will be given a physics problem for which they will be asked to present an analytical solution and verify the same using practical means. The problem for this competition will be selected from material that is typically covered in a freshmen physics class.

Team size: N/A (Individual event)

T-Shirt Competition

This competition is supposed to put a spotlight on the creativity aspect of Engineering. Each team is to prepare a T-shirt in the most creative way they can. The T-Shirt will have to have the School's logo on it as well as the IEEE logo (http://www.ieee.org/web/aboutus/toolkit/masterbrand/index.html) in addition to any other design the team may put on there. This competition will be judged solely on the creativity and the effort that was put into making the t-shirt. It is not mandatory for all participants in the group to have a shift of their own.  NOTE: All preparations and printing should be done prior to coming to the conference; only judging will be done on site.

T-shirt competition: Judging for the T-Shirt competition will be exactly the same as that of Project showcase (as stated above).

Team size: 4-6
