Benefits of Membership
"Beta Alpha Psi is an honorary organization for Financial Information students and professionals. The primary objective of Beta Alpha Psi is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field. This includes promoting the study and practice of accounting, finance and information systems; providing opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals, and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility."

Objectives

Social Interaction:
Meet and socialize with other accounting, finance or information system students with the same interests, classes and teachers.

Exposure to area Firms and Corporations:
Participate in tours of local offices and network with professionals at the Evening with Recruiters, Winter and Spring Induction Banquets, Volleyball and Basketball Tournaments.

Career Information:
Weekly meetings feature speakers from the Philadelphia area firms. Presentations topics range from career development to issues in the industry to technical subjects.

Mock Interview:
Practice behavioral interviewing with trained industry recruiters and receive feedback and suggestions for improvement.

Community Service:
Volunteer in various activities such as tutoring and helping the local community.

Candidate Program
The Candidate Program spans one semester. Within that semester the candidate attends meetings, participates in career enhancing and service activities, and establishes bonds with fellow students and corporate professionals. At the end of the semester, candidates are inducted into Beta Alpha Psi at the semi-annual banquet. Candidates must fulfill all of the candidate requirements before being eligible for induction and membership.

Candidate Eligibility:

  • Have declared accounting, finance or information systems as a major.
  • Have completed at least 30 credits at Temple or elsewhere before induction.
  • Have already completed or be currently enrolled in Accounting 2511 (Intermediate Accounting 1) for accounting and finance majors. MIS majors must be currently enrolled or have completed at least one upper level major course.
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 overall and within the major. The major GPA does not include Principles of Accounting 1&2 or Finance 3011 & 3101.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Achievement of 270 points through various activities
  • Completion of at least 6 hours of community service
  • Completion of the FoxNet Orientation, Resume Development and Resume Critique at the CSPD
  • Mandatory participation in a Mock Interview.
  • Attendance at the induction banquet - National requirement
  • Payment of $90.00 candidate fee

Point System

Every Beta Alpha Psi activity has a point value attached.

35 pts (per event)
Meetings
15 pts (per session)
Office Tours
20 pts (per tour)
On-Campus Tutoring
10 pts (per hour)
Sports Tournaments
20 pts (per event)

Notes: No points are assigned for the Evening with Recruiters and Mock Interviews/CSPD Requirements. Each hour tutoring in the tutoring center also counts towards the required hours for community service.

Candidates:
Each candidate must attain a total of 270 points during the semester in which the candidacy process takes place. The points may not be transferred to the next semester in case a candidate does not meet the candidate requirements.

Members:
Each member is expected to attain a total of 150 points in every semester the student is enrolled in school.

Distinguished Members:
Members must attain 250 points to achieve "Distinguished" status. See below for more information on the distinguished membership program.

Distinguished Membership
Distinguished Membership is an incentive program designed to keep members active within Beta Alpha Psi. The program stresses the importance of staying active and highly involved as a member of the organization. The distinguished program rewards those members who go above and beyond the standard of what is expected for membership requirements. Distinguished members receive special recognition at the semi-annual induction banquets, a Beta Alpha Psi sweatshirt, and the special recognition of having "Distinguished Membership" status, which is also a great resume booster. Members who want to achieve Distinguished status must:

  • Attain 250 points during the semester
  • Tutor at least 4 hours in the tutoring center
  • Participate in 2 community service events
  • Fulfill all other regular membership requirements
