[Internship Interviews]
Name- Steve Marano
Firm you interned with- Deloitte & Touche, LLP
Internship Dates- 6/02/08 – 8/11/08
Line of Service of Internship- Audit & Enterprise Risk Services (AERS)
What were things you did on a day-to-day basis? – My internship consisted of three phases. Each phase allowed me to experience a different Deloitte practice, and discover what I was really interested in. I first did a rotation in Enterprise Risk Services (ERS), where my general duties were to support the ERS staff and senior assigned to audit the general computer controls at our client. I would perform testing, assist during interviews, and observe constantly. I was then assigned to an attest client, where I experienced the traditional audit practice. On this engagement, I conducted interviews on my own, collected and examined the necessary information, and completed workpapers. Finally, I worked with Deloitte’s Data Quality and Integrity (DQI) practice, where I received extensive training in ACL, and supported the staff in completion of journal entry reconciliation.
What were some of your responsibilities? As an intern, I assisted and supported the engagement staffs whenever possible. I contributed to the overall success of the team, and was constantly attempting to learn. At Deloitte, I was treated and expected to perform like a first year, and the responsibilities and expectations awarded to me reflected this.
What was your favorite part of the internship? I was assigned to an attest client, Pep Boys, and was allowed to create meetings and conduct interviews with the Controller, Director of Financial Reporting, and General Manager of Accounting. I also enjoyed playing on the D&T softball team.
What were some of your expectations going into the internship? I wanted the hands on work experience, the opportunity to network and meet other Deloitte employees, and determine my career path within public accounting.
Did the internship meet your expectations? Yes
What was your first day like? Introductions, presentations, introductions, presentations
What about your last day? I walked into my exit interview, and approximately 5 minutes later I walked out of D&T’s offices with an offer of full time employment in hand.
Do you still keep in contact with people you worked with? Yes.
