[Bylaws]

Article 1: Name of the organization
The name of this organization shall be the Alpha Phi Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi at Temple University.

Article 2: The Objectives and purposes of the chapter
Beta Alpha Psi is an honorary organization for Financial Information students and professionals. The primary objective of Beta Alpha Psi is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field. This includes promoting the study and practice of accounting, finance and information systems; providing opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals, and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility.

Article 3: Membership
To be admitted to membership in the organization, a student must successfully complete a semester as a Candidate and attain minimum academic performance.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Be a matriculated undergraduate or graduate student majoring in accounting, finance or information systems.
  • Attain at Temple University minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and an accounting, finance or information systems grade point average of 3.0. The grade point average from the major includes only upper level major courses (Accounting principles 1 & 2 and Finance 3011 & 3101, are not included).
  • Attain a minimum of 30 credits at Temple University or another college or university upon completion of the candidacy process.
  • Complete one course within your major by the end of the candidacy process (For Accounting & Finance students, Intermediate Accounting 1 must be completed).
  • Payment of Candidate fee as determined by the executive committee. The fee covers national dues, organization pin, Induction Banquet, and social recruiting functions.
  • Complete service requirements.
  • Participate in a Mock Interview and Resume Critique Session.
  • Participate and attend the respective Induction Banquet pending faculty advisor's review and approval of academic standing.

*Note: In accordance with the National Bylaws, no second semester senior may begin the Candidate process.

Member Requirements:
Members are expected to:

  • 1) Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0, as well as an accounting, finance or information systems grade point average of 3.0
  • 2) Participate in chapter activities
  • 3) Payment of annual fee as determined by the executive committee. The fee covers the member attendance at both the Fall and Winter Banquets, as well as all social and recruiting functions

Article 4: Meetings for the conduct of business
Actions requiring vote of the entire membership will require a one week notice of meeting and agenda. Persons may not vote by proxy. Both members and Candidates in good standing are eligible to vote. The lesser of 30% of the membership or a quorum of 20 chapter representatives are required to conduct a vote. The final decision will be determined by a majority of the vote.

Actions requiring the vote of the executive committee, consisting of the elected chapter officers and faculty advisor, will require a 48 hour notice of meeting and agenda. Persons may not vote by proxy. An executive committee vote requires the attendance of at least 30% of the executive committee. The final decision will be determined by a majority of the votes.

Article 5: Student Officers
Officer Elections:
The Alpha Phi chapter is active on both the Main Campus and Ambler Campus; therefore, officers will be elected to both. The term of office will begin when the officers are sworn in at the Spring Banquet and end the following Spring when the next class of officers are sworn in.

On both campuses elections are to be held in the Spring Semester prior to the upcoming academic year. One meeting is to be set aside for nominating the candidates. At this meeting, each candidate will give a brief speech stating his or her goals, objectives, and reason for running for office. The members will then fill out an election ballot. Each member will cast one vote which will be collected by the current president. The president and faculty advisor will count the votes, the candidate with a majority of the votes wins. The non-elected candidate(s) will have the option to run for a different position which he or she will announce ahead of time. A candidate may choose to run for up to three positions in the order of preference.

Candidates are not allowed to run for office unless there are not enough members to fill a position. Candidates are allowed to participate in the voting process.

Duties and Responsibilities:
**ALL OFFICERS must submit monthly updates regarding their duties and accomplishments during the month to the faculty advisor.

Executive Board
President

  • Plan and implement the Fall and Spring semester schedules:
    • Organize events that meet the National Regional Activities requirements
    • Arrange weekly meetings
      • Reserve meeting room
      • Determine desirable meeting topics
      • Contact and correspond with speakers and presenters
      • Begin, conduct and end all meetings
  • Update chapter bylaws
  • Deposit all cash receipts
  • Supervise and work closely with all officers in all activities of the chapter
  • Attend Beta Alpha Psi National and Regional meetings

 

Vice President

  • Organize 3-4 office tours for the fall and spring semesters
  • Deposit all cash receipts
  • Coordinate the Annual Beta Alpha Psi Mock Interviews:
    • Schedule the time and place of the event
    • Contact and correspond with the professionals who will be conducting the interviews
    • Schedule members in their respective interviewing slots
  • Supervise professional development of the members
  • Assist the president in duties and take place of president when necessary
  • Attend BAP National and Regional meetings

 

National Reporting Officer

  • Submit monthly reports of professional and service activities via the Beta Alpha Psi Intranet
  • Take care of the beginning and end of the year reporting requirements
  • Organize member resume uploads to the National office
  • Add new members to the Intranet and update the member list as necessary

 

Treasurer

  • Prepare the budget for the year and compile the financial statements
  • Consult other officers on the budget for activities and assist in making financial decisions
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and financial statements
  • Maintain all Cash Receipts
    • Collect all cash receipts. Collect and keep track of membership dues. Maintain appropriate supporting documents and Cash Receipts Journal.
  • Maintain all Cash Disbursements
    • Prepare each cash disbursement and supply proper support documentation. Maintain the Cash Disbursement Journal.

 

Executive Committee
Special Events Coordinator

  • Arrange and coordinate the Evening with Recruiters, Winter and Spring banquets
  • Prepare brochures and nametags for these events
  • Send invitation letters and invoices(when necessary) to the firms

 

Temple Student Government (TSG) Representative

  • Prepare Activity and Program Budgets for submission to Temple Student Government (TSG)
  • Represent the chapter in front of the TSG Allocation Board by attend weekly TSG meetings
  • Ensure timely reimbursements from TSG
  • Prepare the Annual Report for SBM College Council

 

Vice President - Community Service and Fundraising

  • Organize about 3-5 community service events per semester
  • Coordinate the Basketball Tournament in the Spring
  • Arrange 1 fundraising event per semester

 

Candidate Coordinator

  • Attend Candidate coordination meetings held at the beginning of each semester to discuss with Candidates their obligation necessary to Candidate and become a member of BAP
  • Monitor progress of members of BAP
  • Keep track of Candidates/members attendance at all events/meetings and distribute appropriate points for their services
  • Maintain distribution of points earned by members/candidates for participating in other events and activities
  • Relay information on a timely basis to our National Reporting Officer for reporting

 

Vice President - Marketing

  • Post weekly flyers announcing speakers
  • Update weekly meeting announcements for plasma screen
  • Attend all of the marketing functions such as BAP Candidate orientations, SPO fairs and Open Houses for the Fox Business School
  • Promote the organization through in-class announcements and email

 

Vice President - MIS (Web Chair)

  • Maintain Beta Alpha Psi's UNIX account
  • Continuously update the chapter website with current information
  • Take pictures at various events

Article 6: Committees other than the executive committee
Any officer in the Executive Committee may choose to elect a committee to aid him or her in the performance of required duties. Candidates are able to participate in such committee.

Article 7: Fiscal Year
The fiscal year of the chapter will end on April 30th.

Article 8: Authority
These bylaws shall be the principle governing document of the Alpha Phi Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi.

These bylaws are subordinate to the National Constitution and Bylaws of the Beta Alpha Psi Organization. Any provision of this document that conflicts with the National Constitution and Bylaws of the Beta Alpha Psi Organization that is currently in effect will be null and void.

Article 9: Requirements for amendment to the bylaws
An amendment to the bylaws requires a majority of the membership to cast an affirmative vote in order for an amendment to be passed. Amendments may be proposed by the executive committee or membership.
