Alumni Mentor Program
We have introduced a BAP Alumni mentoring program. Through this program one member of our Alumni is paired up with a Beta Member or Candidate. The goal of this program is for our Alumni to provide guidance to Members and Candidates as they finish their last semesters of college and enter into the business community. Alumni mentors will be able to help their mentee's learn more about networking events, the CPA exam, how to prepare for interviews, etc. A short survey is needed to be filled out in order to participate so that we can better pair you with one of our Beta students. For more information on this program please contact Patrick Knabel, our BAP Alumni Development Chair at p.knabel@temple.edu.

Alumni Surveys
We asked our alumni to take a few moments to answer a few questions about there path to success and what they are doing right now. They were kind enough to offer our current members some suggestions on how to make the most of our college careers and some tips that led them to success in their professional lives. We would like to thank all of those who participated! Note: Surveys appear in order from newest to oldest below.  NEW: Surveys from our May 2009 graduates have been added!

Do you have any advice for the current Beta members?

1.  Start studying for the CPA directly upon graduation.  It will only get harder the more time passes.
2.  Study and try to retain the information being learned in classes, it will be helpful.
3.  Most accounting jobs directly out of college will pay roughly the same amount.  Pick the job where you felt most comfortable during the interviews.
4.  Upon being hired and beginning work, SAVE MONEY!

Do you have any advice for the current Beta members?

Get internships if possible and NETWORK. You don't always have to go to Big 4 to get great experience (although the resume cred is great). I actually recommend smaller regional firms such as GR, Margolis, Kreischer. You learn AUDIT and TAX and gives you a great background for the future. Plus your work/life balance is probably a little easier.

Full-time offers: Arthur Andersen

Do you have any advice for the current Beta members?

Enjoy college, don't worry too much about finding a job. If you go to the Big 4, you probably won't be there more than 3 years, so don’t make it your life (unless you plan to be a partner). Don't completely disregard smaller firms. Take the CPA exam as soon as you can after college - the longer you wait, the harder it is to get back into studying.

- Get “REALLY” involved in BAP. Don’t just attend meetings. Run for office, help with events, tutor accounting students, go to community service events, share your ideas, etc.
- Grades do matter! GPA is the most important line on the resume as an entry-level applicant. A high GPA tells the employer that you are a committed and hard-working person. Couple your good grades with your involvement in BAP and you will automatically be a top tier candidate for any firm.

Become active in all the events Beta has to offer, don’t be shy and talk to recruiters and fellow BAP members, and become a tutor! (I wish I had because it would have helped me out a lot more right now as I am studying for my CPA) Don’t get caught up in the big 4, there are plenty of jobs out there, don’t stop looking for something that fits your personality the best!
