Registering Your Student Organization
How to Start a New Student Organization
Please keep in mind that our open registration periods for new organizations are:
Fall Semester – October 1-31st
Spring Semester – February 1-28th
Applications will not be accepted at any other time in the year!
To get started:
1. Think of something creative…something with a focus that will continue to interest people and allow you to put on events throughout the academic year. Think broadly!
2.Browse the current organizations…Make sure we don’t already have an organization that does what you want to do. If we do, your organization will not be accepted- rather, we encourage you to join the group that already exists!
3. If there are no organizations that match your intended group, find ten (10) other students who are interested in joining the organization.
4. Download this Initial Registration Form for new student organizations.
5. Complete and turn the Initial Registration Form into Student Activities (Room 219M of the Student Center).
6. Once your Initial Registration form has been reviewed by Student Activities, you will be contacted.- If approved, continue to the registration process.
- If not approved, try to join some of the existing organizations or improve on your idea and reapply.
7. Once approved, meet with the Program Coordinator or Graduate Extern for student organizations.
8. Next, log into the Student Organization Database on the Student Activities website and begin inputting your organization’s basic information.
9. Write and upload a Constitution for your organization to the online application. If you need assistance, please see the “How to Create a Constitution” worksheet found on the Student Activities website.
10. Have your organization’s officers and advisor confirm their positions on the online Student Organization Application.
That’s it! If you have any questions, please contact Student Activities at 215-204-7131 or email studorgs@temple.edu
How to Re-register
If you are using the online registration system for the first time and you are an existing organization, you will need to possess the following information:
- Organization’s Purpose
- Founding year, amount of dues, meeting time and locations, national affiliation information, total number of members and other organization information pertinent for recruitment of new members.
- The names of at least 10 student members (including Temple University accessnet ID or TU ID number)
- Names of 4 student leaders serving as officers (including Temple University accessnet ID or TU ID number)
- Additionally, your organization will have to name a TSG representative which can be the same person as one of the previously listed officers
- Faculty or Administration Advisor name (including Temple University accessnet ID or TU ID number)
- An electronic copy of your constitution in either PDF or Word format. A sample constitution is available for your reference HOW TO WRITE A CONSTITUTION doc.
Once you have entered this information into the online system, the four officers, TSG representative and advisor will all receive an email asking them to log-in to the system to confirm their individual positions. Once all confirmations have been received, the organization is eligible for approval or denial by the Office of Student Activities. You will receive an email to update your organization of its status.
Only the primary contact person for your organization has access to input the initial information and make updates for your organization. If you are unsure of whom this person is, please check with the Office of Student Activities.
If your organization has used the online registration system before to re-register your organization, you will only need to review the organization’s information and constitution and have the accessnet ID or TU ID number for your four officers, TSG representative, and advisor. Additionally, each of these individuals will have to confirm their positions in order to be re-registered.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact the
