Steve Young, Director, Campus RecreationSteve Young is a native of the Philadelphia area and has been at Temple University since 1984. Steve has a Bachelor of Science degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from West Chester University (1981) and received has Master's degree from Temple in 1985 in Recreation Administration. Prior to his time at Temple, Steve spent over three years working with adjudicated youth as a wilderness instructor and course director for outward-bound style programs in Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

At Temple, he has served as both Assistant Director and Associate Director of Campus Recreation prior to being appointed Director in 1990 when the Division was established. He has responsibility for the recreational programming and facilities on the main campus including intramurals, sport clubs, group fitness, aquatics, adapted recreation, informal recreation and special events.

An active member of the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association, Steve has received the Region One Award of Merit (1997) and is a two-time winner of the Horace Moody Award for Student Development (2001, 2005). He served as the Vice-President for Region One and on the NIRSA Board of Directors from 2003-2005. He holds his Certified Recreational Sports Specialist certification as well as certification as an American Red Cross First Aid/Safety Instructor and is a licensed Certified Pool Operator (CPO). Steve co-initiated the Philadelphia City 6 Extramural Classic back in 1986 and has served as either the coordinator or treasurer since its inception.

On campus, Steve currently serves as a Panel Member for the University Disciplinary Committee and is an active part of the Temple University Student Leadership Challenge, serving on the planning committee that coordinates the program.
