John Bennett, Director, Disability Resources and Services
John Bennett came to Temple University in October 2006 from University College Dublin, Ireland, where he held the post of Director of Disability Support Services, for over 6 years.
Previous to UCD, Bennett worked in the non profit sector, developing innovative projects and services that enabled greater inclusion and participation of people with a disability in areas such as, education, sports, assistive technology, independent living and transport. A number of the services established have secured national and international recognition for innovation and excellence in service delivery. Bennett held various positions in the Civil Engineering industry up until early 90s.
Bennett served on the board of AHEAD-Ireland and was Chairperson of Confederation of Student Services of Ireland. He was a founder member of Para Equestrian Ireland, during which time he competed for Ireland in equestrian events.
In 2006, he was selected by the Irish Government to serve on the Task Force on Active Citizenship, an expert group established to advise Government on the steps that can be taken to ensure that the wealth of civic spirit and active participation already present in Ireland continues to grow and develop.
Bennett holds a Masters in Rehabilitation Studies with undergraduate studies in Civil Engineering.
