OVERVIEW of the office of leadership development
Our goal is for Temple to serve as a destination for leadership development in an urban setting and provide seamless curricular and co-curricular transformative educational experiences that foster engaged learning and promote the holistic development of emerging and seasoned student leaders. Given this, there are three main initiatives that underpin the work of the office:

Since its founding Temple University views its students and our Philadelphia community as “Acres of Diamonds,” serving as a gateway to higher education with a mission to provide “access to excellence.”
The university's Academic Strategic Compass emphasizes the importance of creating “opportunities for success” in which the university provides “students with an outstanding intellectual and physical environment that fosters independent thinking and leadership” in preparation for active citizenship and employment. Research shows that now, more than ever, Temple graduates have both the opportunity and challenge of working in a more highly interdependent global environment, requiring top competencies such as the ability to take initiative, build working relationships, communicate through justification and persuasion, and seek a global understanding.
Temple is uniquely positioned to create learning laboratories for students to develop the leadership skills and personal insights, which prepare them for the competitive job market and equip them with the abilities needed to address and solve our local and global challenges as our next generation of leaders.
