Judicial Affairs
Mission Statement
The mission of the Office of Judicial Affairs is to support the educational goals of Temple University by holding students accountable when they violate our community standards. We will help students be good citizens through the discipline process, informational sessions, and trainings.
Vision Statement
To provide a discipline system that is fair and allows for quick resolution to violations of our community standards.
To provide students with the opportunity to hold peers accountable for their actions.
To provide students with a forum to reconcile their actions, making them better members of our community.
Critical Functions
- Administer the Student Code of Conduct by;
- reviewing student discipline referrals
- charging cases based on the Student Code of Conduct
- meeting with students and explaining the discipline process
- setting up disciplinary hearings
- ensuring the completion of sanctions assigned during disciplinary hearings
- overseeing the appeal process
- Oversight of the University Disciplinary Committee (UDC);
- Create learning opportunities through educational sanctioning and preventative programming;
- Utilize on-campus resources (ie: Campus recreation, Tuttleman Counseling Services, Campus Safety Services) when assigning sanction;
- Serve as a resource on ethical development;
- Maintain discipline records and preserve the confidentiality of these records;
- Provide data regarding student behavior in a way that will support intervention and educational sanctioning;
- Serve as a resource to students, parents, faculty and staff regarding the Student Code of Conduct and disciplinary procedures;
- Provide professional development for students, faculty, and staff who serve as University Disciplinary Panel Members;
- Participate in the maintenance of a safe campus environment;
- Manage crisis situations.
