Summer Intent Process for Graduate Students

Our initial housing contract runs from August 1 to May 31st and is 10 months long. However, we understand that students may need to stay throughout part of, or all of the summer. Current residents in our graduate spaces will be contacted in the spring semester through email to fill out the Summer Intent Form and request to stay through the summer.

The guidelines to be allowed to stay in the summer are:

Students who are renewing for the following year can:

  • Remain in their space for the full summer term for the full summer costs.
  • Remain in their space for a partial portion of the summer term. If they choose this option, their costs will be prorated for each day they remain in University Housing and they are fully expected to remove all of your items and hand in your keys upon checkout.
  • Completely move out on or before May 31st and move-in on or after August 1 of the new contract. (Please note: students must set up an appointment with the Resident Director to schedule your move in).

Students who are renewing for the following year but are changing apartments or rooms and want to stay throughout the summer will be contacted by the Resident Director during the summer to arrange your move. The dates/times of the move will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Students who are not returning to Graduate Housing following year can:

  • Remain in University Housing until June 30th if they obtain a letter of support from their academic department justifying why they need this extension. Students in this situation also need to agree to a move-out date on or prior to June 30th. These situations involving students not renewing for the following year but request to stay in housing during a part of the summer will  evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Costs will be pro-rated per day.

Unfortunately, students who were not residents in the past year cannot move in early; the option to stay in the summer is only offered to current residents.
