2012 Memorial Award Winners

Sol Feinstone Award
The recipients of this award are honored for their participation in, leadership of, or personal accomplishment of constructive social and/or educational change within or outside the University community, such change having been effected in an orderly manner within the framework of democratic principles. This award is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors. Awarded to April D. Glaser, Senior, College of Liberal Arts; Sierra R. Gladfelter, Senior, College of Liberal Arts; and Emily J. Kinsel, Senior, College of Liberal Arts

The Dorothy A. Seegers Memorial Award
Awarded annually in honor of Dorothy A. Seegers, who made a significant contribution to Temple from 1943 to 1979 as a student, as an employee and as an administrator.  The award is given to a full-time graduating senior who has demonstrated a concern for others and has shown dedication and loyalty to Temple University exemplified as by Dorothy A. Seegers. Awarded to Nicole E. Welk, Senior, Tyler School of Art

Joel M. Schafer Award
Presented to an individual, junior or senior, affiliated with Temple University, with financial need and a commitment for a better society for all people; i.e., one who demonstrates a social consciousness through action. Awarded to Roni K. Devassy, Senior, College of Science and Technology

Adeline and Marvin Wachman Scholarship Fund
This fund was created to award a current freshman and sophomore who possess high academic achievement, significant participation and promise of leadership in co-curricular activities at Temple University during the freshman year. Awarded to Samantha A. Carter, Freshman, College of Health Professions and Social Work and Bhavi M. Patel, Sophomore, College of Science & Technology

Valaida S. Walker Award
This award is presented to a student in good academic standing who demonstrates University leadership as well as service to the broader community. This award is open to current sophomores and juniors. Awarded to Jordan L. Greenwood, Junior, College of Liberal Arts 

Whittaker Award
Awarded annually in honor of Raymond Whittaker, the director of Student Activities who helped Lewis Katz and Bill Cosby establish an entertainment and lecture series for students in the early 1960’s. This award is given to a full-time junior or senior who has demonstrated innovative and entrepreneurial leadership in furthering student activities to benefit students and the community. Awarded to Ian J. Rose, Junior, School of Communications and Theater

Jerry Zaslow Award
The award is presented to a student who has best demonstrated high academic achievement as well as well-rounded activity within the University and the community.  Awarded to Jona Shperdheja, Freshman, College of Science & Technology
