Try-A-Climb:
No experience necessary. 30 minutes of supervised top-rope climbing by an experienced climbing wall instructor. The instructor will assist fitting a harness and shoes, and will belay (hold the rope). The instructor will give an introduction in to the movement of climbing, and give introductory advice about how to move on rock. This session is experience based, designed to get you climbing immediately, and includes minimal instruction. Walk-ins welcome but not guaranteed. Try-A-Climbs are limited to one session per semester. Students interested in becoming self sufficient climbers should schedule an Intro to Climbing session.

INTRO to CLIMBING: 2 hour session/1 day session- Maximum of 6 people
Intro to Climbing is designed to make students self sufficient climbers. The Intro to Climbing session will cover how to fit a harness, how to tie a figure-8 retrace, set up a belay device, and how to belay and lower a climber. This session is instruction based. No experience is necessary and equipment is provided.

INTRO to BOULDERING: Two week session - 1.5 hour session/ 1 day a week/ 2 weeks - Maximum of 6
The intro to bouldering session is designed for climbers who have tried climbing at least once before and are ready to try bouldering. Bouldering compresses the difficulty of a full route into a small vertical space, creating very powerful, technical movement. Movement skills are the primary component to achieving fluidity, efficiency, and grace in climbing. This lesson will give students a basic understanding of climbing technique and movement. Students will learn resting positions, foot work, balance and body positioning. Students will also be able to identify different types of climbing holds. This session will also include instruction on how to properly spot climbers and fall properly.

LEAD CLIMBING: Two-week session - 2 hour session/ One day a week/ 2 weeks - Maximum of 4
Lead-climbing and lead-climbing belaying are complex activities that both build upon and extend top-rope skills with new techniques, enhanced risk management, and heightened vigilance and anticipation. This session will cover belayer movement and positioning, clipping techniques, resting and stances, relaxation and mental training, communication and commands between climbers, and how to fall and catch a fall properly. Climbers interested in taking the course should have at least one year top rope experience and comfortably climb 5.9.
