Program Review

Overview

The program review is a collaborative process designed to provide an in-depth, comprehensive study of a single department within the Division of Student Affairs. This process involves administrators, staff, students, faculty and external consultants. Through this process, three reports will be developed: 1) department Self-Study, 2) External Review Team report and 3) Internal Review Panel report. Utilizing three reports, the program review provides a comprehensive assessment. The most important aspect of the review is to create improvements within departments and to identify opportunities for future development. Program reviews occur on a rotating basis, every six years.

Purpose

Assessment and evaluation is an overarching goal in the Division’s strategic plan. Program reviews will assist in the realization of this goal. Program reviews will be connected to the division’s strategic plan. Whenever possible, program reviews will be scheduled and conducted to complement and support other unit-specific accrediting processes to reduce repetition of effort and ease the overall workload.

  • The objectives of the program review process are to:
  • Determine the extent to which a department has managed its resources in an efficient and effective manner;
  • Evaluate the organizational structure of the department to determine effectiveness;
  • Evaluate the extent to which a department has addressed the division’s strategic goals;
  • Assess the facilities of the department to determine effective use of space;
  • Evaluate the extent to which a department has successfully addressed student learning and development outcomes and/or business and service outcomes;
  • Recommend improvements to increase effectiveness; and
  • Identify opportunities for future development.
