Steve Young Steve Young has been director of Campus Recreation at Temple University since August of1990. He is responsible for the development and administration of a comprehensive recreational sports program on the large and diverse, urban campus. The department of Campus Recreation operates and manages three main student recreational facilities (IBC Student Rec Center, Student Pavilion and Pearson Hall Pool Complex) and coordinates eight large programming components including intramurals, sport clubs, informal recreation and group fitness, special events, adapted recreation, aquatics and student staff development. Prior to 1990, Steve served as Associate Director (1987-1990), Assistant Director (1985-1987) and GraduateAssistant (1984-1985) of Campus Recreation at Temple. A 1981 graduate of West Chester University (BS, Health and Physical Education, concentration Outdoor Pursuits Education), Steve received his master’s degree at Temple in 1985 (M.Ed, Recreation Administration). Before coming to North Broad Street, Steve worked as a wilderness instructor and course director for Outward Bound style wilderness programs servicing adjudicated youth. His undergraduate internship took him to Hattiesburg, Mississippi where at the University of Southern Mississippi he initiated their Outdoor Adventure Program within the division of recreational sports. He is a certified American Red Cross First Aid and Safety Instructor as well as being a NIRSA certified Recreational Sports Specialist. He carries a CPO (Certified Pool Operators) license. In support of his profession, Steve has served as a member of the NIRSA (National Intramural Recreational Sports Association) Board of Directors (Region 1 VP 2003-2005) and currently serves on the NIRSA Foundation Board (2008-2012). Steve was the Chair of the NIRSA Foundation Board from 2010-2011. |
