Welcome

You have reached the website of the Strongin research group of Temple University, located in Philadelphia. The Strongin group is a physical chemistry research group which primarily focuses on using surface analytical techniques to tackle environmental problems; though many other problems which require surface analytical techniques, like industrial catalysis, are being explored as well. The pages of this website include information on our research, facilities, publications, and group members.

Lab News

A new research project is underway, collaborating with the Astrobiology Biogeocatalysis Research Center (ABRC) at Montana State University investigating Iron Sulfides possible involvement in the origin of life.

We recently aquired a Dionex Ion Chromatograph which is helping to increase our analytical techniques which we use to bolster our physical understanding of mineral systems.

We are currently beginning a studying involving the interaction of various manganese oxide minerals with arsenite in solution. AFM imaging of arsenite treated manganese mineral particles suggest the formation of some secondary phase which could be due to co-precipitation of Mn(II) and As(V).
