Graduate Program
The Program
We offer M.A. and Ph.D. degrees with specializations in Spanish American Literature, Peninsular Spanish Literature, and Hispanic Linguistics. Multi-year competitive financial support in the form of teaching assistantships is available only to doctoral students. These awards include a monthly stipend, tuition remission, and health insurance. Moreover, university fellowships are available on a competitive basis. Please note: MA-degree terminal students do not qualify for an assistanship.
Each year we offer conference travel awards to selected graduate students. Summer teaching appointments are given to a limited number of students.
The Department has an active and multinational group of faculty and graduate students with literary, linguistic and cultural interests in several fields.
We offer opportunities for graduate study during the summer to meet the diverse needs of high school teachers.
The Department is the home of Anales de la Literatura Española Contemporánea, an international journal, and the Society of Spanish and Spanish-American Studies. Thus a research assistantship is given for those involved with the scholarly publications sponsored by the unit.
Our graduates have experienced successful placement.
