Germany

The School of Social Work has a signed agreement with FHE University of Applied Sciences Erfurt in Erfurt, Germany. This agreement allows Temple undergraduate social work students to learn from the German social service experience and for German social work students to learn from the American experience. There are two opportunities through this agreement

Study in Germany: SSW BSW students may attend FHE for one (fall) or two semesters as an exchange student. The Temple student would pay Temple tuition/fees and attend social work classes at FHE. Students would need to know German and are recommended to attend the month long intensive German language session held before the start of their fall semester.

Short visit to Germany: There is an annual visit to Temple by German students/faculty every fall and a visit by Temple students/faculty to Erfurt every spring. The spring trip to Germany will consist of discussions of social issues with German faculty/students, visits to German social service agencies and visits to historic sites in the Erfurt area.

St. Lucia

SSW students have traveled to the Caribbean island of Lucia for a 7 to 10 day experiential learning opportunity. They worked with schools and community leaders to improve the quality of life for impoverished local children, to identify needs for future endeavors, and to build the social networks, social capital, and relationships necessary to develop ongoing efforts to reduce poverty. The trips have been held in May of each year.
