Drug and Alcohol CounselorPeople´s Emergency Center is the oldest provider of emergency shelter and supportive services to homeless women and children in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Services include emergency food, clothing and shelter; transitional housing; case management and counseling; parenting and life skills; child care; teen education and recreation; welfare-to-work preparation and job placement assistance; and permanent housing opportunities. The candidate´s practice should be trauma informed and have experience working with low-income families with concomitant mental health, domestic violence and parenting issues. The D/A counselor must be able to address stages of substance abuse, chemical dependence, issues confronting children/adolescents and generational chemical dependence. Identify best practices in working with family and community systems impacted by poly-substance abuse and addictions. The candidate should have experience in providing individual and family related D/A counseling, run a weekly D/A group for women and is comfortable with the 12-step recovery model. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, be able to conduct urine screens and complete comprehensive evaluations in a timely manner. Evening hours are required. Qualified candidate must have a MSW. Certified addictions counselor is preferred. Two years of drug and alcohol counseling experience is preferred.
