JOIN THE TUSMART PROGRAM

This is an exciting time to be an educator. In no previous period has their been such widespread support and recognition for the profession of teaching and appreciation for the contributions of teachers.

Did you know that annualized salaries for teaching at the entry level are higher than those in related technical fields. Starting salaries in the Philadelphia Region range from $39,000 - $42,000 for a 10 month appointment. Some school districts offer signing bonuses and incentives of up to $6000.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Stipends are available for students who intend to teach elementary or middle school or teach secondary math and science. Students must:

• Be U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
• Be Matriculated in a Temple University curriculum in elementary or secondary education
• Register for selected sections of major courses required for my teaching degree,
• Attend at least two one hour meetings per year
• Complete and return occasional questionnaires
• Take the required Praxis exams at appropriate times and report my grades to the grant manager
• Participate in occasional interviews or focus groups
• Allow classroom teaching observations and access to course materials
• Allow grant Directors access to my grades and transcript for research purposes only
• Maintain university standards for progress in major and retention to degree.

 

Stipends are earned for participation and have no effect on financial aid. Following is the payment schedule for participants:
