Basic Function: Serve as a liaison between student volunteers and Coalition staff, engaging volunteers and a wider audience on campus around issues related to hunger and poverty.
Scope of Work:
- Assist with recruitment of students from campus.
- Responsible for consistent communication with the volunteer team from local campus, consisting of six to ten volunteers.
- Conduct on-site trainings with members of campus volunteer team.
- Conduct mid-semester on-site check-ins with volunteer team, to ensure that team members are comfortable and confident with volunteer assignment.
- Assist with maintenance of materials and space at assigned sites (up to two field sites).
- Maintain regular communication with volunteer team and Coalition staff.
- Hold monthly meetings on campus to engage volunteer team, identify problems, and encourage reflection.
- Attend bi-monthly meetings with Coalition staff and other Volunteer Team Directors.
- Recruit students from campus to participate in the annual Walk Against Hunger.
- Screen clients for food stamp eligibility at a community site; weekly for two hours.
“Big Picture” Project:
- Work with Coalition staff to develop a unique, long-term project that will engage volunteers and wider campus populations and increase awareness around hunger and poverty. Projects could relate to political advocacy and involvement, domestic hunger awareness, etc.
- Examples: Conduct a letter-writing campaign around a current political issue. Organize the “Food Stamp Challenge” on campus. Organize a campus event or fundraiser. Creativity is encouraged.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be highly reliable and willing to work independently. Must be outgoing and willing to take initiative. Must communicate well. Must have strong writing and computer skills.
- Must be willing to make at least a year-long commitment of six to eight hours per week (hours may fluctuate slightly throughout the year).

Job Description:

- Answer Intake line and provide screening for high volume Telephone Counseling Consumer Education and Referral Service (training is provided)

Student Advocate Work Study Description
Duties and Responsibilities: Student Advocates are needed to work one-on-one with clients to help them reach their goals. You might help somebody write their first resume, locate a G.E.D. program, find affordable housing or childcare, or help them find a job. Student Advocates work a minimum of four-hours in the office per week, meeting with clients and researching social services and job openings in the area. Tools to guide your work are provided in the office, such as resource binders and veteran members of the organization. Student Advocates are also required to attend bimonthly meetings, which will be utilized to conduct ongoing trainings and share client services challenges and successes with fellow members.
Qualifications: NSP student advocates are bright, motivated students with a strong desire to get to know and give back to their communities. We’re looking for people who are determined and committed to helping others by lending their pro-active problem-solving skills. Student Advocates must be good listeners and supporters with a willingness to get to know people in their community and the services available to help them.

COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER PROJECT
The Northwest CommUnity Coalition for Youth (NCCY) is seeking Work Study students who will assist students from varying backgrounds in grades 8 to 12 (13 – 18 years of age) in creating, producing and distributing the NCCY CommUnity Newsletter. This position is offered only to students who are Pennsylvania residents.
The NCCY CommUnity Newsletter Project is an outgrowth of collaboration between State Representative Dwight Evans’ Office, Philadelphia Anti Drug/Anti Violence Network (PAAN) and other community organizations to address the surge in violence involving young people in recent years.
We are seeking college students to work with the young people in this program.
Job Description
- Work-study applicants should have excellent writing skills and preferably major in English, Journalism, Mass Media, Communications, Primary or Secondary Education or other related fields. However, all work-study students shall be considered for the position, regardless of their majors.
- Experience in developing or writing a newsletter, newspaper or other periodicals is a plus but not necessary.
- Work-study applicants should be familiar with Microsoft Publisher software and other programs used to publish newsletters but not necessary. Training can be provided.

The Homeschool Workshops Series includes at least 5 themed series throughout the year. These programs require interns who can work 5-10 hours each week, including every Thursday each week while the series is running, from 12PM to 4PM. The Homeschool intern will be a Science or Education major who enjoys research and has some prior experience working with children in a formal or informal learning environment. Crossroads Community Center is seeking energetic and responsible students to assist with three program openings:
- Athletics/Sports instructor-These individuals will oversee, coach, and mentor youth in an afterschool environment in basketball and other age and location appropriate sports and athletic pursuits
- Computer Instructor-These individuals will help administer and monitor a four (4) seat computer lab and is to assist in project and educational games management and instruction
- After School Program Assistant-These individuals will monitor and assist students in an after school homework and “safe-haven” program, lead and monitor the buildings and grounds, rovide homework help, and help serve snacks
All applicants must pass background check and pre-involvement screening. These openings are for PA ork study and community service opportunities. Days and times of need are: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons from 3:00-5:00pm. There are currently openings for two (2) of each position. Opportunities exist for flexible scheduling and additional hours.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Computer Literacy Instructor
The computer literacy instructor will develop, plan, and teach courses in basic computer skills to local adults and youth. Other duties include manning the center’s computer lab during hours of open operation, maintaining a clean and well structured learning environment for program participants and essentially serving as a guide for the men, women and youth of this community who desire to uplift themselves as people and professionals by gaining greater proficiency in the world of computer science. We are looking for someone who possesses the skills and enthusiasm to help us maximize the effectiveness of this crucial program.

Summary
Duties: The Free Library’s LEAP After School Program provides homework assistance, technology support, and enrichment programs for school age children and teens. Each library branch has a LEAP Team consisting of library staff, an After School Leader and 2-3 teen employees, called Teen Leadership Assistants (TLAs). Associate Leaders provide mentoring, program development, and training for the TLAs. They may also participate in special projects in library agencies and citywide. Paid training is provided. Qualifications: Juniors or seniors, with strong customer service, leadership and communication skills; technology skills, as well as demonstrated ability to plan, organize and present programs and interest in working with teens.
