1. Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 1:07 PM.
2. Approval of Minutes:
The minutes from the previous meeting were approved.
3. President's Report:
President Hart held another reception with faculty. Among other topics, the new P&T standards were discussed. It is important that departments and schools get their guidelines to the Provost. This is the first that we have heard that departmental as well as collegial guidelines are being asked for.
It was also discussed if is important that scholarship be communicated to the community at large as well as to other scholars.
It was suggested that perhaps we should re-institute the "ask the provost" sessions that we used to have during Senate meetings.
The EPPC continues to look at issues of transfer credit, articulation agreements, and GenEd. There is a change in the GenEd writing requirement -- departments are no longer required to offer a capstone writing course.
Tim O'Rourke will meet with the FSSC next week. The new provost will meet with us in two weeks.
The newly revised policies on Office Hours and Syllabi are now posted on the Temple Website.
The GEEC is still looking for area coordinators.
4. Vice President's Report:
There was a brief discussion of the remaining openings on the EPPC.
5. Old Business:
Stevens brought a sample of the hiring letter sent to one of their new hires. It is not a welcoming text. Evans will bring it to the Provost for discussion.
6. New Business:
An agenda for the next Senate meeting was devised. Evans announced that Maxine Chisholm, the Faculty Senate Coordinator, will retire at the end of this academic year. She will, however, continue to work part-time to provide continuity. The FSSC expressed their great appreciation for her and all that she has contributed to the FSSC, the Senate, and Temple University. I (LaFollette) would liketo take this opportunity to provide my personal thanks for all that she has done to make my job as recording secretary easier.
7. Adjournment:
The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 PM
Respectfully submitted,
Paul S. LaFollette, Jr.
Secretary
