Temple University Faculty Senate

Welcome to the Faculty Senate website.

The Faculty Senate is the means by which the rich diversity of faculty comes together to have a voice in the collective vision of Temple University. The Senate is composed of all full-time Presidential faculty from all of the schools and colleges of the University. The Senate, and its committees, have the responsibility of acting as advisors to the administration and the Board of Trustees.

University Senate Meetings are held twice a year, in December and May, and are open to all Presidential full-time faculty. Representative Senate Meetings, which are open to all, but voting privileges are extended only to the representative senators, are held monthly, September through April. Schools are notified annually of the number of Representative Senators in their college, based on the number of their full-time Presidential faculty. Senate meeting days are varied so that all faculty members have a chance to attend most of the meetings in any year.

The agenda for the meetings is arranged by the Faculty Senate Steering Committee, which consists of one representative from from each school and meets every Tuesday afternoon.

Any senator may serve on any committee. Committees are important vehicles for faculty governance for such issues as leaves, research policies, undergraduate education policies, and personnel issues.

We urge you to volunteer for a committee, and to get involved in the Senate's work in order to maintain a strong faculty voice at Temple University.
