Minutes of February 11, 2008

 

 Present: Bruce Conrad, Mary Anne Gaffney (Chair), Terry Halbert, Phil Harris,  Jackie Resavage, Michele O’Connor, , K. Sadeghipour, Barbara Thornbury,, Anthony Defusco, Catherine Schifter, Rob Drennan, Orin Chein,  and  Patti Vorndran present as a guest.

 

Meeting convened at 2:45pm.

 

  • Approval of minutes with corrections of December 10, 2007 deferred until later in meeting in order to expedite discussion of concerns of guests. 
  •  Terry Halbert presented GEEC update;
    • General Education Science and Technology requirements for native students:
      • Completion of two Science and Technology (GS) courses
      • Completion of one introductory level Science course and one Science and Technology Gen Ed (GS) course
      • Completion of an approved two-semester Science and Technology sequence.
    • Reviewed Gen Ed policy considerations that were approved (handout)
    • GIG Update
      • 94 courses will be approved by end of week if Mosaic I and II are approved.
      • Currently examining the array of courses across departments to ensure mix is appropriate.
      • Working on the assessment piece
      • Will focus eventually on online Gen Ed courses, Learning Communities, and Information Literacy.
      • Reviewing challenges for repeat policy posed by same Gen Ed courses in different departments.
       

K. Sadeghipour asked if students take sequences as part of the curriculum would students receive waiver?

 

  • Michele discussed CST proposal to require placement testing for transfer students who need to continue math sequences as part of their program at Temple.  
    • Discussed rationale; reviewed plan by math department to ensure success of all students by providing additional required opportunities as part of the course schedule.
    • Discussed next steps.
  • Patti Vorndran provided an update on the certification process for Core-to-Core
  • 5. The EPPC supported the decision not to accept transfer credits designated with grade of CP (Collegiate Partnership).
