The following resolution was adopted by the Executive Committee at its meeting on       January 19, 2006.

Resolution Regarding the Policies and Procedures Governing the Search for the Ninth President of Temple University

Recommendation:  Pursuant to Section 7.2.F. of the Bylaws, the Executive Committee, acting on behalf of the Board of Trustees, hereby adopts the following policies and procedures governing the search for a President of Temple University:

1.)           The members of the Presidential Search Committee appointed by the Chairman of the Board shall be required to sign a written code of ethics to protect the integrity of Temple University and the candidates for the office of the President.  Through its Chair, the Committee may adopt internal operating procedures as it deems appropriate to carry out its responsibilities.

2.)           The Presidential Search Committee will, with the assistance of a search consulting firm selected by the Committee Chair, seek and evaluate candidates for the office of the President of Temple University, and will interview those candidates with substantial (but not necessarily majority) support by March 31, 2006, or as soon thereafter as reasonably possible.

3.)           The Presidential Search Committee then will determine which candidate or candidates are to be invited to meet with the University’s constituencies.

4.)           The candidate meetings with the University’s constituencies of faculty, students, alumni, administrators, staff and trustees should occur during the month of April 2006, or as soon thereafter as reasonably possible.

5.)           By May 3, 2006, or as soon thereafter as reasonably possible, the Presidential Search Committee should recommend “one or more candidates” to the Board of Trustees for its consideration in electing a President.

6.)           By May 9, 2006, or as soon thereafter as reasonably possible, the Board of Trustees should elect the ninth President of Temple University.
