SYNOPSIS
"Willkommen!” to the dingy Kit Kat Club at the dawn of the decadent 1930’s in Berlin. The mirthfully menacing Emcee presides as your seductive host and the beautiful Miss Sally Bowles is the featured attraction. Love is in the air for Sally, or so it seems, while the Nazis have begun their prodigal rise to power. All is well with the world, yes? Or is it?
Kander and Ebb’s classic cautionary musical milestone, Cabaret, returns to Philadelphia in the thrilling intimacy of the Prince Cabaret Blackbox in Center City, complete with cabaret-style seating. As we close the curtain on our Bright Lights, Big City 2008-09 Season, take a trip with us to Berlin where, inside the Kit Kat Klub, the Emcee makes a promise we hope he intends to keep: “In here, life is beautiful.”

THE MERCHANT OF VENICE
TOMLINSON Theater
March 19 - 29, 2008
by William Shakespeare
directed by Dan Kern

The legendary moneylender Shylock and the ever-resourceful heiress Portia wrestle with the elusive conundrums of justice, dignity, love, and the freedom to live and let live in this explosive tale of vengeance and betrayal—and the twice-blessed mercy that heals them both. Temple Theaters proudly presents one of Shakespeare’s most popular—and controversial—plays.
THE DARKER FACE OF THE EARTH
RANDALL Theater
February 6 - 16, 2008
by Rita Dove
directed by Charles Dumas

Inspired by Sophocles and set in antebellum South Carolina, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Rita Dove artfully melds classical myth with modern history, linking a slave revolt to the story of Oedipus, conjuring a powerful tragic tale of interracial love and its fateful consequences.
THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE
RANDALL Theater
November 14 - December 1, 2007
by William Saroyan
directed by Donna Snow
Nick’s waterfront saloon, San Francisco, 1939; a concourse for derelict dreamers, American dreamers of all stripes and persuasions, each one searching for something more than they have. A mysterious lush named Joe presides. Seeking his own answers, he miraculously finds them in encouraging the hopes of others.
Temple Theaters first presented this iconic American masterwork as part of our inaugural season in 1967. We celebrate our proud legacy of artistic achievement with this fortieth anniversary staging of William Saroyan’s magnificent Pulitzer Prize-winning classic presented in the arresting intimacy of Randall Theater.
INTO THE WOODS

music & lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
book by James Lapine
directed by Peter Reynolds

A beguiling musical wish for the eternal magic of fairytales, for love, security and a rewarding connection between parents and their children, the ageless quest for truth, trust and “happily ever after.” Temple Theaters celebrates the twentieth anniversary of Stephan Sondheim’s enchanting, joyfully mischievous, wise and moving contemporary musical theater classic, INTO THE WOODS, in a refreshing new production guided by the creative team for last season’s remarkable Ragtime, the Musical.
IN CONFLICT
RANDALL Theater
October 3 - 19, 2007
Extended By Popular Demand!
adapted & directed by Douglas C. Wager
based on the book by Yvonne Latty
See the rave reviews and feature articles of our acclaimed World Premiere production here.
The Iraq War: over a million soldiers have served, facing brutal combat conditions, surviving in a hostile land, coming home to face the daunting challenges of returning to civilian life. What happened to them? Their remarkable answers to this question are as diverse and unpredictable as their backgrounds, representing America in all its confounding human complexity. IN CONFLICT brings to theatrical life the unheard voices of Iraq War veterans speaking out on duty, loss, and the fight to stay alive in their own unforgettable words, up close and personal.
In Conflict has, since its Temple debut, performed (with our student actors) at the legendary Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, CT and will transfer to an Off-Broadway venue this summer with the original cast intact. Congratulations to all!
