Advertising

Students learn the arts of marketing communications in a modern, high-tech, media intense, global society. They comprehend the nexus of economic communications and social communications, and they are positioned to succeed in professional careers and to respond wisely as citizens, consumers, and community leaders.

Broadcasting, Telecommunications and Mass Media

During a time of rapid change in the information and entertainment media industries, students examine the production and impact of media messages and products. Dynamic courses prepare students for careers in television and radio, the recording industry, new media, management, telecommunications, media research, and more.

Communications Major

Students explore, design, and implement an individually specific course of study in the field of communications. The program exposes students to all communications disciplines, including practical writing, oral skills, and media production, while allowing for an in-depth focus in more than one specific area of study.

Film and Media Arts

Students develop creative and technical skills in film, video, audio, and new media, as well as a theoretical understanding of media and culture. Graduates are prepared to develop their own independent productions or to assume a creative role in the motion picture and television industries.

Journalism

In a well-established program with a commitment to a strong liberal arts foundation, students explore new ways of reporting and distributing news and information across print and digital platforms. Students specialize in broadcast journalism; news reporting and editing; mass media photography; or magazine writing and editing.

Strategic and Organizational Communication

Students gain strong analytic and performance skills for a variety of communication contexts and careers where advocacy is the goal, including law, business, public relations, public policy, and government. The department offers concentrations in public communication, public relations, and organizational leadership.

Theater

Students develop creative, cognitive, and communication skills, and are introduced to a broad view of the theater as an important cultural institution. The program, which combines theory and practice, prepares students for careers in acting, theatrical design, directing, stage management, and technical theater.
