Overview

More than 200 graduate students pursue professional and scholarly opportunities in the School's six graduate programs:

They prepare for further research and doctoral work or for careers in film, media, communications policy, theater, and management and production.

Academic and Professional Programs

The Master of Arts in Broadcasting, Telecommunications and Mass Media, Master of Journalism, and Master of Science in Communication Management are programs with both academic and professional orientations that can lead you to careers with communication responsibilities in a broad array of domains — journalism, corporations, professional associations, media industries, arts and community groups, government, education — or to further study and research specialization in the PhD program.

Fine Arts Programs

The School of Communications and Theater offers MFAs in Film and Media Arts and in Theater. The MFA in Film and Media Arts features study of a broad range of media practices, from conventional linear documentary and narrative film to contemporary interdisciplinary forms, in an intimate, collaborative community. The MFA in Theater offers programs in Acting, Design, Directing and Playwriting. Mid-career professional actors and directors engage in an intensive, two-year resident theater company, while developing teaching skills. The three-year Design program offers immersion into on-stage visual worlds, while the Playwriting program serves established, produced writers who work full-time.
