Job Description:
Direct, plan and develop the Programming, Operations and Engineering activities of WDET--FM to ensure the high quality on-air presentation of program content in support of audience development goals and the stations mission to the surrounding community.

Oversee program execution and delivery, including on-air fund raisers, music festivals, remote broadcasts, special coverage and extended preemptions. Manage the broadcast schedule as well as the personnel, fiscal and operational aspects required to provide high quality programming.

Direct and deliver short form elements and long form programming of daily broadcasts. Oversee the scheduling and rotation of all on air promotions, underwriting credits , interstitial content, and fund raising elements and oversee the acquisition and delivery of pre-recorded programs in accordance with the highest industry standards.

Manage program formatics and production output required to provide overall on-air broadcast excellence. Provide insight and direction regarding formatics, style and tone and oversee the trafficking, creation and quality assurance of all pre-produced announcements and messages.

Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts to improve operational efficiency and meet station standards and goals. Serve in a liaison and resource capacity and remain current with industry developments and trends.

Provide audience analysis. Collect and interpret data, provide customized analysis products for stakeholders and maintain effective working relationship with data vendors.

Perform personnel and budget management functions. Direct and oversee selection, training and evaluation of subordinate exempt and non-exempt personnel. Determine staffing needs and appropriate staffing levels. Prepare fiscal year budgets and oversee expenditures.

Education Required:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in mass communication, broadcast journalism or related field.

Experience Required: Minimum 5 years experience in radio management particularly in the areas of cross departmental execution, radio formatics, planning and management.

ANALYTICAL SKILLS - Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including audience and marketplace analysis. Ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative radio data, independent market research data and third party data into a holistic understanding of WDET's audience and service opportunities.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT SKILLS - Ability to manage multiple projects along multiple time lines to successful conclusion.

Job Description: Must be able to demonstrate a quality on-air sound, creative production and an active interest in the local community. Requirements include good computer skills and a working knowledge of digital editing tools for production, copy/script writing and information updates for use on-air and internet.  Music Scheduling experience, News writing experience and/or Sports Play-by-Play is a definite plus. All three stations are licensed and broadcast in HD, two are currently have HD2 Channels.  New HD3 channels coming soon, so aspiring Music Directors are encouraged to apply!
