Notable Alumni - 2000s
Andrew Bossone, ’04, is a journalist and professor based in Cairo, Egypt. He currently is a reporter for the Egyptian newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm, a contributor to National Geographic News and a part-time professor of journalism at the American University in Cairo (AUC). He has written political and economic analysis for the Economist Intelligence Unit, launched a local technology magazine and founded programs at AUC dedicated to fostering interculturalism and diversity. He has taught media ethics and multimedia writing at AUC. He received a Master's degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, where he specialized in broadcast and religion. At Temple University, he studied broadcast journalism with a minor in business administration. He has interned for CNN, ABC News and the Associated Press. Miasha Coleman, '03, released her novel Mommy's Angel in June of 2007. The book tells the story of a 15-year-old girl who is forced to take to the streets when her family life falls apart. Miasha is also the author of best-selling novels Secret Society and Diary of a Mistress. Publishers Weekly called her a "writer to watch," and VIBE magazine dubbed her a "literary phenom in the making." The West Philadelphia native now lives between Philly and the suburbs of Atlanta with her husband and son.
Jason McKie, '03, the starting fullback for the Chicago Bears, was profiled in the September 12, 2008 issue of the New York Times for founding the Jason McKie Foundation of the Institute for Science and Health. The Foundation provides support for families of soldiers through scholarships, financial support and tickets to the Bears' home games. His decision to focus the foundation's work on soldiers and their families came from his father, who spent 21 years in the military. To read the Times article, click here.
