Lew Klein Alumni in the Media and
Excellence in the Media Awards
Lew Klein has served the School of Communications and Theater as an adjunct professor for more than five decades. A seasoned professional who produced such landmark television programs as American Bandstand, Klein is respected by the Temple community and media professionals as a master teacher and wise mentor.
Named in his honor, the Lew Klein Alumni in the Media and Excellence in the Media Awards were established through the generosity of H.F. ‘Gerry’ and Marguerite Lenfest and Walter and Leonore Annenberg through the Annenberg Foundation.
Lew Klein Excellence in the Media Fund
Proceeds from the Lew Klein Alumni in the Media Awards luncheon benefit this Fund, which supports professorships, scholarships, and other areas of need within the School. Most recently, the Fund has awarded scholarships to promising undergraduate students who gain valuable experience through professional internships.
Lew Klein Alumni in the Media Award
This award honors Temple University alumni who have distinguished themselves in the fields of communications and theater. These successful alumni have made significant contributions in their fields and in their communities, and they serve as an inspiration to current students. Honorees are inducted into the School’s Alumni Hall of Fame.
Lew Klein Excellence in the Media Award
This award honors distinguished members of the media whose outstanding achievements and commitment to service bring honor to their profession. The highest honor bestowed by the School of Communications and Theater, this award recognizes the contributions of the media to society and the ethical responsibility that is incumbent upon its members.
