About the School
Welcome from Dean Stewart
What a fantastic fall we had at SCT, from the Lew Klein Awards to top-notch lecture series to amazing student theater productions. SCT’s departments and programs continued to attract regional and national attention. Our doctoral program was ranked 10th in the nation for research and productivity, our Theater Department staged In Conflict to wide acclaim, and our Film and Media Arts department was praised in the 2nd edition of the popular book Film School Confidential. In addition, we had the chance to welcome talented new faculty to our School.
We’re all looking forward to an equally energetic spring 2008 semester here at SCT. The spring always provides us a great opportunity to enjoy at all the wonderful student-produced media from SCT, including Temple Theater productions, print and Web reports from MURL, the Diamond Screen Film Festival, new issues of Philadelphia People and more. The creative work of our students is recognized as they continue to earn prestigious internships, garner national and international awards, and win major scholarships.
As our students hone these creative skills this spring, they will also perfect their academic understanding of the importance of the role of communications in public life. Because tomorrow’s communications leaders will be expected to work across media, our students are exposed to the array of communications disciplines before focusing on a specific area of study. In this way, students develop a theoretical understanding of communications and culture, as well as the creative and technical skills necessary to launch successful careers. They learn by doing.
SCT prepares future generations of leaders and innovators. They leave Temple with the same solid foundation that launched earlier alumni into proud achievement as journalists, actors, broadcasters, directors, producers, and media executives.
Congratulations on a great fall semester, and best wishes for the same this spring!
