Temple University’s campus emergency notification system has been
developed to create the safest possible environment for
the campus community. Effective and reliable mass notification has
become a fundamental aspect of university security. Ensuring
the safety of our campus community and students is vital. Temple
University’s Emergency Communication Plan should
help to
ensure a comprehensive, coordinated approach to communications that
will:
The Temple University emergency siren is utilized only in instances that pose catastrophic and immediate life threatening situations. The siren signifies a need for all to shelter in place immediately, unless otherwise directed. In addition to sounding the siren, a TU Alert will be sent out and incident updates will be posted to the university web site. The TU Siren engages for 3 minutes.
The TU-Alert notification is Temple University’s communication plan in the event of a campus emergency requiring immediate action on the part of the campus community. Testing of the TU-Alert system is a critical to ensuring its effectiveness and is conducted each semester.
In the event of an actual emergency where immediate notification to students and employees is required, Temple will use TU-Alert to notify the campus community in several ways:
In addition to the TU-Alert notifications, a yellow bar will be placed across the top of the Temple home page at www.temple.edu. This bar will link to an emergency notification page with the additional information.
