  • NIH Loan Repayment Programs
    The LRPs repay the outstanding student loans of researchers who are or will be conducting nonprofit biomedical or behavioral research. Opportunities are available in five research areas - clinical, pediatric, health disparities, contraception and infertility and clinical research for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. Applications will be accepted until 8:00 p.m. Eastern time on November 15, 2011.
  • Extension for Comments on Proposed Human Subject Regulations
    The Department of Health & Human Services has announced an extension of the comment period for the proposed rule changes to human subject research. The new deadline is October 26, 2011. You can go to the Federal Register notice for information on how and where to submit comments.
  • First eRA@TU User Group Meeting
    This meeting is designed to allow eRA users from across the University to meet and discuss tips, techniques, issues and more. The first meeting will last approximately 90 minutes and will consist of a short introduction, a brief presentation on a "hot" topic, followed by an open forum. A detailed agenda will be sent before the meeting. Our User Group Planning Committee is comprised of research administrators from across the University. Meeting location will be determined by the size of the room we will need so if you are planning on attending (and we hope you will), send an RSVP to omalley@temple.edu with the number of folks from your area that will be attending. See you then!

    The Senate on Thursday gave overwhelming approval to the most significant overhaul of the U.S. patent system in almost six decades, streamlining the review process and giving the Patent & Trademark Office the financial resources to begin reducing a backlog of nearly 700,000 unexamined patent applications.   • The Future of Funding in the Social and Behavioral Sciences at NIH and NSF The Temple Institute for Survey Research (ISR) will host an open house and symposium entitled "The Future of Funding in the Social and Behavioral Sciences at NIH and NSF". We are honored to have two distinguished directors from NIH and NSF who will provide keynote lectures: Dr. Myron Gutmann, Assistant Director of the National Science Foundation and Head of the NSF Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences Directorate and Dr. Robert Kaplan, Director of the NIH Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) and Associate Director of NIH.
