• New law to extend ARRA reporting to all federal awards

  On June 13th of this year a bill was introduced in the US House of Representatives that would extend ARRA-type reporting to all federal research awards. This bill, HR 2146, if passed into law would repeal Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act (FFATA), but add significant reporting burden to all federal awards.   DARPA is soliciting innovative research proposals in the area of social media in strategic communication. Proposed research should investigate innovative approaches that enable revolutionary advances in science, devices, or systems. Specifically excluded is research that primarily results in evolutionary improvements to the existing state of practice.

• Request for Information (RFI): Input on Reduction of Cost and Burden Associated with Federal Cost Principles for Educational Institutions (OMB Circular A-21)

  This Notice is a time-sensitive Request for Information (RFI) offering the opportunity for input on potential revisions to OMB Circular A-21, 2 CFR Part 220 (Cost Principles for Educational Institutions, accessible at http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/circulars_a021_2004) that could reduce administrative burden or costs associated with compliance requirements for Federal research grants and contracts awarded to educational institutions. • After Stanford v. Roche: Bayh-Dole still stands (from IPWatchdog)
  

  Now that the dust is settling down after the United States Supreme Court's ruling on the much debated Stanford v. Roche case, we need to take stock of its pragmatic impact. We are happy to report that Bayh-Dole remains unscathed. After all was said and done, the underlying case was a standard debate over ownership of a valuable invention between two parties who had been working together. Click here for more information.

• The Future of Funding in the Social and Behavioral Sciences at NIH and NSF The Temple Institute for Survey Research (ISR) will host an open house and symposium entitled "The Future of Funding in the Social and Behavioral Sciences at NIH and NSF". We are honored to have two distinguished directors from NIH and NSF who will provide keynote lectures: Dr. Myron Gutmann, Assistant Director of the National Science Foundation and Head of the NSF Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences Directorate and Dr. Robert Kaplan, Director of the NIH Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) and Associate Director of NIH.
