Upward Bound

WHAT IS IT?

Upward Bound at Temple is an all-year pre-college program for students enrolled at Thomas Edison, Simon Gratz, Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin and Kensington high schools.   The Upward Bound Program motivates, prepares, and assists talented high school students for future collegiate enrollment.  It is part of Temple's Russell Conwell Educational Services Center. 

SERVICES AVAILABLE IF YOU PARTICIPATE:

Summer Session:

  • Live in the residence halls at Temple

  • End of Summer Collegiate Trip

  • Stipends

  • Let your Counselor at your high school know that your are interested in applying, or

PHILOSOPHY

For more than a decade, the Upward Bound Program at Temple University has provided academic and motivational services to low-income, potential first generation college students from Thomas Edison, Simon Gratz, Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin and Kensington high schools. The program is designed to increase students' basic academic skills and motivation, while facilitating their enrollment in a college or university. The program has been highly successful in achieving its mission and believes every participant can attend and excel in college.

WHO CAN APPLY?

You should join the program and participate if

  • You attend a Philadelphia public high school;
  • You would like to go to college, but don't yet know how to apply or qualify for college;
  • You have the interest and enthusiasm for new, exciting experiences and friendships;
  • You are thirsty for the knowledge and opportunities that only college can bring you;
  • Neither parent residing in your home has earned a bachelor's degree; or
  • Your income level does not exceed federal guidelines for the program.
