Welcome the RCC Community Fellows


The Russell Conwell Center (RCC) received an award from AmeriCorps to select 13 talentedTemple University students to serve as Community Fellows (CF) during 2012-13. The RCCCommunity Fellows will serve incoming Temple freshmen and high school students enrolled inthe Upward Bound and Math Science Upward Bound Programs. Specifically, their duties entail:

Tutor/Mentor (TM) for High School Students:

  • Activities include, but are not limited to:

  • 1. Tutoring 9th - 12th grade students;
  • 2. Mentoring 9th- 12th grade students;
  • 3. Providing workshops in: career awareness, study skills, or college admissionsprocess;
  • 4. Exposing students to the college environment via campus tours, classroomobservations, sitting in on a faculty meeting etc.;
  • 5. Providing one-on-one assistance on the FAFSA process and/or college applicationprocess.

Academic Coach for Temple Freshmen:

  • Activities include, but are not limited to:

  • 1. Mentor and/or tutor incoming freshmen;
  • 2. Present workshops on college adjustment, college culture, residence hall etc.;
  • 3. Providing workshops on career resources, study skills, or other academic topics; and
  • 4. Attend select sessions of Freshmen Seminar and assist students in academicreadiness.

After completing 300 hours of service, the Community Fellows will receive an educationalaward to acknowledge their efforts, as well as gained many professional skills. Moreimportantly, they will have the satisfaction of looking back and understanding their efforts andexperiences made the educational experiences of students in the community more exciting,fulfilling and successful.
