Program Details

The Emerging Scholars Program is a comprehensive and holistic program designed to enhance your overall development, academic skills and academic performance. To ensure your success, the program has outlined a series of required services and events scheduled throughout the year.


Required services include:


• Registration for a Freshmen Seminar

• Attend Monthly Seminar Meetings

• Participate in tutoring for targeted courses such as English, Math and Science

• Meet with your Learning Specialist monthly and Academic Coach bi-monthly

• Attend Fall and Spring Registration Workshops


Among the unique services and activities offered to Emerging Scholars are:


Academic Support: Comprehensive support to all Emerging Scholars such as:
• Free Printing in the RCLC labs
• Cram Jam (late night tutoring and meals)
• RCLC Labs and Laptop Loan Program (free access to computers)
• RCLC Tutors and Study Groups
• Register for a one-credit Freshmen Seminar
• Undergraduate Academic Coach

• Learning Specials and Assistant Director of Academic Counseling

Financial Support: Scholarships are reserved for Emerging Scholars (based on program participation, academic performance and financial need).

Program Board: Join a leadership group where you can develop events and activities for the Emerging Scholars.


Leadership: Continue to hone your leadership skills, build your resume and make connections with university staff and faculty. Leadership events include:
• Leadership Certificate Series
• Career Exploration and Awareness Program

• Technology Certification Series

• Faculty Chat and Chews


Emerging Scholars Internship Program: Apply to become a member of this paid, professional internship to heighten your leadership, career, and professional skills. Among the skills you will learn are:

• Project based management
• Presentation and public speaking skills
• Technology skill development

• Interpersonal and communication (applied when you serve as an RCC Emerging Scholars Student Ambassador for the entering Fall 15 class)


Living Learning Community (LLC): Live on the RCLC/Emerging Scholars Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) residence hall floor. Among the support available only to you are:

• Evening tutoring

• Networking with STEM faculty, staff and industry professionals

• Mentoring from upper-class STEM students

• Trips and cultural visits to STEM related programs

Community Engagement: Participate in events to develop connections on campus and among your peer group. You can organize activities that suit your interest in addition to the following events currently available to Emerging Scholars:
• Free Monthly Movie Night
• Ladies of Elegance line: Ladies of Elegance Step Organization "Step or Die" tickets.
• Free Monthly Game Night

Community Service: participate in service events to impact your local, Temple and RCLC communities. Pre-arranged events include:
• AIDS and Cancer walks
• Philabundance (serve or pack meals for the homeless)
• PB&J Jam (make sandwiches for the homeless)


We encourage you to also organize community service events based on your interests.
