The Educational Services Component

The Educational Services Component  is one of three undergraduate referral programs designed to provide academic preparation and support for any Temple University student. The program assists Temple University adjust to and succeed in college. In addition to an extensive academic year support program, the Educational Services Component  provides a six week Summer Bridge Program, with academic advising for freshmen. The Program has a Learning Center with numerous computers connected to the Internet available for student use.  Moreover, the Program provides tutorial assistance, academic workshops, and outreach and cultural activities. 

ACADEMIC YEAR PROGRAM

The Tutorial Component assists students in achieving academic success in their courses.  Academic assessments are conducted by the staff to ascertain the student's strengths and weakness and to prescribe the specific tutorial services needed.  The Learning Center provides tutoring in courses described as "high risk" courses, in addition to science, writing, intellectual heritage, mathematics, business and social sciences.  Students may utilize tutoring services as frequently as they think it to be necessary.

The Counseling Component provides individualized assessments of students learning styles and then offers academic, career and personal counseling to facilitate student success at Temple University. Through individual counseling and group workshops, students develop the skills needed to excel academically and to navigate the Temple system.

SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM

Full-time students admitted to the  program are required to attend a six week Summer Bridge program designed to help students make a smooth and successful transition from high school to college. The Educational Services Component Program includes classroom instruction in the areas of composition writing, reading, study skills, library usage, math and computers. The Counseling Component offers workshops and career and university speaker seminars. The overall program provides a foundation of the academic and personal skills necessary to succeed at Temple.
