Congratulations on your acceptance to Temple University and Welcome to the Russell Conwell Center. The Office of Admissions works with the Russell Conwell Center (RCC) to provide talented students with University Admission. The RCC provides extensive academic support to enable students to maximize their university experience, achieve academic success, develop strong leadership skills and prepare for their future careers. Student services offered in the RCC includes academic advisement and counseling, individual and group tutoring, academic and educational support, undergraduate research, employment opportunities, leadership development training, peer mentoring, career identification and exploration, and cultural and academic enrichment programs to help students enter and excel in college, attain their undergraduate degree, and enroll in graduate school (if that is your goal).

By now, you should have received a document called “Seven Steps to Registration.”

Seven steps outline a series of activities you need to complete in order to register to Temple University in the Fall 2008 semester. Included in the seven steps are:
1. The RCC Summer Bridge Workshop
2. University Placement Exam
3. New Student Orientation or arrange a meeting with your RCC advisor.

If you have changed your major since filling out your Temple Application, you need to provide Temple with your new major. Please use this link to update your intended major. It must be completed and sent by June 1st, 2008.

Your college career starts NOW – during the 2008 Summer Bridge Program (SB). Your Summer Bridge experience will strengthen your academic skills, familiarize you with the campus, introduce you to vital campus resources, and quicken your social adjustment enabling you to make new friends and study partners. In addition, while in the Summer Bridge you will register for your fall semester classes. Your classes are determined by your interest and results of your university placement exam. Your exam scores will place you in the appropriate level of math and English. At the close of the Summer Bridge, you will have the opportunity to re-take the Placement Exam, where an increase in your score could result in changing your course to a higher level course.

The Summer Bridge has proven to be very effective in increasing student performance and persistence at Temple University.  Moreover, students who participate in the Summer Bridge perform better than similarly able students who do not have the advantage of participating in the Bridge: For example:
o Did you know greater than 75% of the Summer Bridge students increased their placement exam score at the end of the Bridge with 50% of those able to register for the next level course, thus decreasing the number of courses they needed to take during the college career.
o Did you know that Summer Bridge students perform better during the academic year than they are predicted to perform?

The Summer Bridge offers you a tremendous advantage over your peers – the rest of the freshmen class. Take advantage and make the most of this unique opportunity!
