Recent Events Held by the PMA

 

PMA Schedule of Events 2008-2009

  • Resume Workshop (10/9/08) - John King from Career Services came and explained to students how to put together a resume and what future employers and graduate schools are looking for.
  • Movie Night (10/23/08)- Students gathered in the Student Activities Center and watched Pineapple Express.
  • Career Panel (11/19/08)- Faculty members, Academic advisors, and graduate students came and talked about their professional and academic careers. Students had the opportunity to ask question and gain valuable insight about their future career paths. The speakers were: Brianne Bettcher, M.A, Dr. Peggy DeWolf, Associate Chair of the Psychology Department, Dr. Marsha Weinraub, Associate Chair of the Psychology Department, and Dr. Nora Newcombe, a professor of Psychology.
  • Clothing Drive (11/24/08-11/28/08)- Numerous coats, t-shirts, socks, and pants were collected by Temple students and donated to Bright Hope Church.
  • Valentine’s Day Fundraiser (2/13/09)- Lots of candy and baked goods were sold by PMA members in the Student Activities Center. The money raised was donated to Relay for life.
  • Cognitive/Neuroscience Event (2/25/09)- Professor Chein came and spoke to students about the field of neuroscience. Handouts about cognitive neuroscience were distributed to all attendees and students were able to ask questions about possible career opportunities.
  • SPIN presentation (3/25/09)- Lynn Fink (HR recruiter) and Tracie Funderburk (Assisting Director) came to speak to students about job openings with their organization. “Special People in Northeast, Inc.” (SPIN) is a non-profit human services organization which provides support to individuals with mental, physical and sensorial disabilities.
  • Relay for Life (3/27/09)- PMA members was among several other Temple student organizations that came out to support the cause. Relay for life was held in the Student Pavilion.  Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of  students camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length.
  • Career Panel (4/13/09)- The theme for this panel discussion was “Clinical/Abnormal Psychology”. Thus we had 4 speakers come and talk to students about their academic and career pursuits relating to the field of clinical psychology. The speakers were: Louis Cianni, undergraduate student and RA in the Peer Social Networks lab, Amanda Morrison, first year graduate student who works in the Adult Anxiety Clinic, Meghan Flynn, post doctorate student at Temple, and Andre Watson, PsyD, clinical psychologist in Philadelphia.
