Principal Investigator
Vinay Parikh, Ph.D.

Biography:
Dr. Parikh obtained Ph.D. degree with specialization in Pharmacology from Punjabi University in 1999. After working as a Scientist in Discovery Research at Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. for two years, he joined the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine as a postdoctoral fellow to obtain training in Neurochemistry and Neuropsychopharmacology. He integrated perspectives of systems and behavioral/cognitive neuroscience into his research by acquiring further postdoctoral training in Psychobiology and Neuroscience from Ohio State University and the University of Michigan. Prior to joining Temple in 2009, Dr. Parikh held the position of Assistant Research Scientist in the Department of Psychology (Biopsychology and Neuroscience Program) at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Parikh’s research interests broadly focus on the neurochemistry of cognition and pathologies affecting cognitive functions. His current research is funded by the National Institute on Aging, National Institute of Mental Health and the American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR). Dr. Parikh is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, International Behavioral Neuroscience Society, American Society for Neurochemistry and Collegium Internationale Neuropsychopharmacologicum (CINP). He serves as a reviewer for many neuroscience and psychiatry journals and has received many prestigious awards including the Young Investigator Award from International Congress of Schizophrenia Research (2003), the Rafaelson Young Investigator Award from CINP (2006), Research Faculty Recognition Award from the University of Michigan (2008) and New Investigator Award in Alzheimer’s Disease from AFAR (2010).

Biography:
Brittney is a second year graduated student in the Brain and Cognitive Sciences program working with Dr. Parikh. She graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Vermont in 2010. Her general research interest includes learning, memory and aging. She’s currently studying the regulation of cholinergic function by NGF receptors and beta-amyloid with overall emphasis on cognitive decline in aging and Alzheimer’s disease.

Biography:
Rob is a first year graduate student in Parikh lab. He graduated from Edinboro University with a B.A. in Psychology. His research interests include neurobiology of learning and decision-making, schizophrenia and addiction.

Biography:
Britt obtained a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience with distinction from Temple University in 2011. During her undergraduate training, she acquired many neuroscientific skills including operant training of animals, immunohistochemistry, western blotting and cell imaging. Currently, she’s coordinating research activities and assisting with multiple projects in Dr. Parikh’s lab.
