In recognition of the growing popularity of developmental psychopathology as a focus of interest within the fields of clinical and developmental psychology, and in order to highlight the departments strengths in both clinical and developmental psychology, the department provides graduate students the option of adding an emphasis in developmental psychopathology to their training in either clinical or developmental psychology.
The emphasis in Developmental Psychopathology is neither a separate program nor a subdivision of either the clinical or developmental programs, but a recommended set of courses that students interested in this specialization are encouraged to follow.
Clinical Students
It is recommended that, in addition to the requirements of the clinical area, the following courses be taken: the Core Course in Developmental Psychology; Developmental Psychopathology (for clinical students, this can count as a clinical elective); Socioemotional Development or Cognitive Development; and one elective seminar in developmental psychology (on a specific age period or a particular aspect of normative development).
Developmental Students
It is recommended that, in addition to the requirements of the developmental area, the following courses be taken: the Core Course in Psychopathology, Psychological Assessment I, Psychological Assessment II, and two elective seminars in clinical psychology.
