I must admit I never saw myself as being a National Park Service Law Enforcement Ranger, in fact, I knew very little about the profession; but nevertheless I knew my place was in law enforcement. After my summer internship with the Park Service I found myself again realizing where my place was, to be with the few who have dedicated their lives to protect our nations treasures along with the people who have come to enjoy them.

The ProRanger program was and still is a tremendous opportunity for me and my fellow ProRangers to start a rewarding career with the National Park Service and be part of the greater force that protects our national treasures and beautiful homeland.

I've never felt more beaten down, tired, hungry, exhausted, or nervous in my life, and I've truly enjoyed every moment of it. The skills you will gain at the academy, irreplaceable. The experiences you will have, indescribable. The knowledge you will take in, endless....Embrace the opportunity you have been given and take advantage of every new experience you can.

As a future employee I will make every effort to reach out to populations that are underrepresented in the National Park Service. As a young African American male, my presence alone may help welcome others like me; however, I also plan to use my experiences to convey the message to those relevant populations of the need for diversity and how welcoming the NPS community is.

If you had asked me two years ago what I'd be doing on my quarter-century birthday, I would have never guessed I'd be starting a career in law enforcement with the National Park Service, protecting the some of the most beautiful, ecologically/biologically valuable, and culturally significant places in the United States. It's really great to have a career right out of college; it's even better to have one with purpose.

Diversity has always been a very important concept to me. As a first-generation American, I have been able to appreciate diversity from a young age…. The National Park Service is designed to protect the nation’s lands and history and as such should represent the face of America. This representation should represent the diversity of America. Therefore, we should be able to reach out to all communities to help to tell America’s story.

The hours were long and hot but the work was extremly rewarding....Without these people working everyday there would probably be no park to come visit. The grass would be overgrown and the beaches would be over run with garbage. Sometimes these are the people in parks that go unseen and we would like to take this time to thank them for all thier hardwork and dedication to improving the beauty of all National Parks.

As a future NPS employee, I would encourage younger visitors to explore the National Parks that fit their interests; if they like the beach, visit a National Seashore, if they are into history, check out one of the great historical parks around the country. I think the younger generation needs to realize the diversity of experiences that parks can offer. After all, what good is preserving our National Parks if no one is there to enjoy them?
