Reporting to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, the Senior Vice Provost for Research Administration and Graduate Education is responsible for managing and developing research and graduate education with a long-term, strategic focus that contributes to the overall achievement of the university as outlined in the Academic Strategic Compass. Oversees and provides leadership for the full panoply of research issues related to the administration of the university’s research centers and institutes by acting as a chief advocate to cultivate relationships and increase research dollars allocated to the university and providing a leadership role in the development and implementation of new university research centers and institutes. Provides oversight and project management in the development of large, complex research program opportunities in all relevant academic fields including terminal master's and doctoral studies in the arts , oversees and coordinates the administration of targeted research programs, serves as the primary liaison between researchers, administrators, and funding agencies. Establishes, evaluates and implements university-wide policies and infrastructure to assure effective organization and management of research and sponsored projects, coordinates activities concerning pre-and post-award administration and regulatory compliance.
In consultation and collaboration with the Provost, provides support to deans in recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty researchers; supports and promotes faculty research productivity and creative expression; increases funded research by providing expertise in the effective development of grant proposals and research initiatives; and facilitates interdisciplinary efforts among faculty and across schools and colleges. Communicates and collaborates with faculty researchers and staff, and, as appropriate, funding agency officials, and community members to plan for, represent and promote the development of major research programs, initiatives and positive/productive graduate program relationships throughout the TU research community. Coordinates and supports faculty in the development of individual research strategies; acts as a point of consulting expertise to faculty in the effective development of grant proposals and research promotion initiatives and new graduate program proposals. Counsels and interacts frequently with research faculty to gather and evaluate suggestions, influence decisions and actions, and steer strategic research planning. In conjunction with the Provost, Deans and faculty develops strategies to support excellence and innovation in graduate education across the university. In concert with the Provost, faculty and designated academic administrators, explores alternative strategies to graduate education that support and enhance goals and initiatives articulated in the Academic Strategic Compass. Collaborates with the graduate faculty to institute, shape and interpret Graduate Board and Graduate School regulations and guidelines to establish and maintain uniform standards for quality and integrity within all programs throughout the university. Directs and oversees the programs, activities, and staff of the Graduate School and the Office of Research. Maintains an ongoing dialogue with dean, faculty and other decision-makers in the schools & colleges to draw attention to and focus on potential inter-relationships and synergies in the Academic Strategic Compass associated with research objectives and graduate programs. Advises the Provost on all matters pertaining to the operation and management of research and graduate education.

Provost's Office offers seed grants for faculty research and creative collaborations: For the third straight year, the Provost's Office is offering one-year seed grants of up to $50,000 to support pilot research or creative projects by interdisciplinary teams of two or more Temple faculty members. Up to ten grants for scientific research and ten grants for creative collaborations in the arts and humanities will be awarded.
