Access Temple and Conditional Admission
Access Temple is a gateway program to Temple University that allows conditionally-admitted students to build the advanced English skills needed for academic success, learn the classroom skills needed to succeed in an American university, and earn up to 15 undergraduate credits. Successful Access Temple students receive automatic admission to Temple University with no further TOEFL or IELTS testing required.
International students receive conditional admission and are accepted to Access Temple when they are academically qualified to study at Temple University, and provide TOEFL scores of 65-78 iBT or an IELTS score of 5.5.
Program Description
In order to build confidence and demonstrate readiness for degree-level study, our conditionally admitted students train to succeed by studying in Temple courses taught by Temple professors while receiving support from the Access Temple program. Most importantly, Access Temple students will take the same First-Year Writing courses that all fully admitted undergraduates are required to take over two semesters, but with a much higher chance of success as compared to other international students who do not go through the Access Temple program. In addition, the program includes instruction in the academic English needed by all university students, as well as the English needed for specific majors, such as Business, Liberal Arts and the Arts, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). In addition, specially designed elective courses and workshops will help all Access Temple students learn essential college survival skills needed by both international and American freshman by the time they enter university, including effective use of technology, academic presentation skills, surviving student life at American universities, how to use university services to your advantage, and more.
Unlike other gateway programs, Access Temple will provide extensive one-to-one and small group academic support, inÂcluding pronunciation coaching and drop-in tutoring. Moreover, we offer many ways for students to meet other students, faculty and university representatives in the Temple community.
Some gateway programs only allow new students to join once a year. Access Temple accepts new students in both the Fall and the Spring, while offering a Summer semester to returning or previously registered students. In addition, students successfully completing the University Bound semester of Access Temple are automatically eligible to start their degree programs in Temple University’s next available semester.
Upon successful completion of Access Temple, students receive official university transcripts with transferable credits for their bachelor’s program at Temple.Accesss Temple University Bound
