If you are already in the United States in Non-immigrant (F-1) Student status, you will need to follow certain immigration procedures to transfer to our program. It is very important that you follow these procedures. If you do not transfer correctly from your current school to the Intensive English Language Program according to immigration procedures, you will be out of status. To be out of status means that you are in the United States illegally. If you are in the United States illegally, the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services has the right to order you to leave the United States.
Before we can transfer you from your present school to the Intensive English Language Program, you must have your current international student advisor complete the Transfer Request Form. Your school advisor should complete the form and return it directly to the Intensive English Language Program.
It is your responsibility to provide the IELP with clear copies of your current Form I-20 and your I-94 card. You must also give us original financial documentation. (For detailed information about the necessary financial documents, please see How Do I Apply?).
When we receive the following documents, we will prepare a Form I-20 for you.
You will receive a letter of acceptance after your application has been processed. The letter indicates registration and payment information. When your transfer I-20 has been processed, the IELP office will notify you.
If you plan to travel, you will need to have your I-20 signed by the Assistant Director. Also, this is your proof that you have legally transferred to the Intensive English Language Program from your former school.
If you do not complete the transfer before you start classes, please remember that the transfer must be completed within 15 days of the first day of classes, or you will be out of status.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the IELP office at ielp@temple.edu.
