Metro-Engagement

Temple University's future is inextricably linked to the well-being of the Greater Philadelphia region and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The university continues to provide a stewardship of place that respects, understands, builds upon and enhances the region's unique historic, physical, cultural and community assets. The "Philadelphia Experience," part of the General Education curriculum, is a springboard for community awareness and engagement among Temple students.

Strategies

Through partnerships and unique relationships, students, faculty and staff experience opportunities to serve and lead the community in which Temple resides. The university's new School of Environment Design is providing a model for promoting sustainability and civic responsibility.

Outcomes

• Increased new research and educational initiatives with community engagement component
• Expanded GenEd offerings that include a component of metro-engagement from 32% (AY 07/08) to 60%
